Fabio Cerchiai

Fabio Cerchiai graduated in Economics and Commerce from the University of Rome La Sapienza.

He began his professional career at Assicurazioni Generali, where he held increasingly responsible managerial positions until becoming General Manager for Italy in 1994, CEO in 1997, and finally Deputy Chair in 2001.
 

He has been adjunct professor at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan – Faculty of Banking, Financial and Insurance Sciences and member of the Executive Council and the Assonime Board.
 

In the past, he has been Chair and Board member of numerous companies and insurance firms, including INA Assitalia, Meliorbanca S.p.A., UnipolSai Assicurazioni S.p.A., Autostrade per l'Italia, Atlantia S.p.A., Cerved Group S.p.A., and Edizione S.r.l., as well as Chair of the National Association of Insurance Companies (ANIA).
 

Currently, in addition to being Chair of the Board of Directors of BPER Banca S.p.A., he is Director and member of the Management Committee of the Interbank Deposit Protection Fund (FITD), member of the Council of the FITD Voluntary Intervention Scheme (SVI), Board member of the Italian Banking Association (ABI), Deputy Chair of Diplomatia, member of the Executive Council of the Censis Foundation and ANSPC – National Association for the Development of Credit Problems, and Academic Member of AIDEA – Italian Academy of Business Economics. Since 2022, he has also held the position of Chair of the Federation of Banks, Insurance and Finance.
 

In 2012, he was awarded the honor of Knight of Labor.
